Privacy Policy
Last updated 7 September 2026
This policy explains what personal information Insly Go collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers the Insly Go website, the Insly Go app and the Insly Go Driver app.
1. Who we are
Insly Go is a peer-to-peer parcel delivery, food and grocery ordering, and rides platform operated by Insly in South Africa. In terms of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), Insly is the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy.
Contact us at [email protected] for any privacy question, or to exercise any of the rights in section 9.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details— your name, email address and mobile number. Your Insly account is shared across Insly products, so signing in to Insly Go uses your existing Insly identity.
- Delivery and trip details— pickup and drop-off addresses, a description of the parcel, and the recipient’s name and mobile number. For rides, the number of passengers and the rider’s contact details.
- Order details— the store, the items and any note you add when you order food, groceries or pharmacy items.
- Identity documents (carriers and drivers only)— a photo of your identity document and a selfie, used to verify that you are who you say you are before you may carry parcels or passengers.
- Handover photos— a photo taken at pickup as proof of collection.
- Support and dispute messages— anything you send us when you report a problem with a job.
- Emergency contacts— the names and numbers of people you choose to add so they can be alerted if you raise an SOS.
- Business details (store partners only)— your trading name, branch addresses, menus, catalogues and prices.
Information we collect automatically
- Location— the app asks for your device’s location only while the app is open, and only when you tap “Use my location”, place a pin on the map, or raise an SOS alert. We use it to fill in an address and to price a job by distance. Insly Go does not collect location in the background and does not track you when the app is closed.
- Photos you choose— the app opens your camera or picker only when you choose to attach a document, selfie or handover photo. We only receive the specific image you select.
- Job and usage records— the jobs and orders you post, accept, complete or cancel, the timestamps of each step, ratings, and the amounts charged.
- Device and log data— app version, device model, operating system, IP address and error logs, used to keep the service working and to investigate abuse.
Information we do not collect
We never see or store your full card number, CVV or banking login. Payments are handled entirely by our payment provider on their own secure pages. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
3. Why we use your information
| What we use | Why |
|---|---|
| Name, email, mobile number | Create and secure your account; send job notifications by SMS and in-app |
| Addresses and location | Match a job to nearby carriers, calculate the distance-based fare, and navigate |
| Recipient name and number | Let the carrier reach the recipient and send the drop-off PIN |
| Order contents | Send your order to the store, price it, and let the carrier collect the right items |
| ID document and selfie | Verify carrier and driver identity so senders and riders are protected |
| Pickup photo and handover PINs | Prove that a parcel was collected and delivered to the right person |
| Payment records | Hold funds in escrow, release payouts, refund disputes and meet tax obligations |
| Emergency contacts and SOS location | Alert the people you nominated, and our support team, when you raise an SOS |
| Device and log data | Diagnose faults, prevent fraud and abuse, and keep the platform secure |
4. Our legal basis
We process your personal information because it is necessary to perform the contract between you and Insly Go, because you have consented (location, camera and photo access, marketing messages), because it is required by law, or because it serves our legitimate interest in keeping the platform safe. You can withdraw consent at any time, including by turning off a permission in your device settings.
5. Who we share it with
- The other party to your job.A carrier sees the pickup and drop-off addresses, the item description and the first name of the sender or recipient. A sender sees the carrier’s first name, vehicle type and rating. Phone numbers are masked through a call proxy wherever masking is available, so neither side sees the other’s real number.
- The store you order from— your first name, contact number and the items you ordered, so they can prepare it.
- Identity verification provider. Your ID photo and selfie are sent to our identity verification partner to confirm a match and check liveness.
- Payment provider. Your name, email and the amount are sent to our payment gateway to process a top-up or payout.
- Messaging providers. Your mobile number and the message body are sent to our SMS provider so you receive PINs and job updates.
- Mapping provider. Coordinates are sent to a mapping service to display the map and convert coordinates to an address.
- Emergency contacts and our support team when you raise an SOS.
- Law enforcement or regulatorswhere we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect someone’s safety.
Some of these providers process data outside South Africa. Where that happens we require safeguards at least equivalent to those POPIA demands.
6. How long we keep it
- Account details — for as long as your account is open.
- Job, order, payment and dispute records — five years after the job, because tax and financial legislation requires it.
- Identity documents and selfies — for as long as you are an active carrier or driver, and for twelve months after that.
- Pickup photos — twelve months after delivery.
- Handover PINs — stored only as a one-way hash, never in readable form.
7. Security
All traffic between the apps and our servers is encrypted with TLS. Sign-in tokens are held in the device’s secure keystore. Handover PINs are hashed, never stored in plain text, and locked for fifteen minutes after five wrong attempts. Access to production data is limited to staff who need it.
8. Children
Insly Go is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Your rights
Under POPIA you may:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy;
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong;
- ask us to delete your account and your personal information;
- object to processing, or withdraw a consent you gave;
- complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at [email protected].
To delete your account and data, use Account → Delete account in either app, or visit go.insly.co.za/account/delete. We explain exactly what is deleted and what we must keep on that page.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page and, for material changes, tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
